DETAILS

The Perth Mint and Australia Post are pleased to present this stamp and coin cover to celebrate the rich culture of the Kalkadoon people.
Acclaimed Kalkadoon artist Chern’ee Sutton depicts her traditional Country in the Mount Isa region of Queensland. Mount Isa is situated on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon people who followed patterns of hunting and gathering, fishing and trade for many thousands of years. The Kalkadoon people formed a powerful and spiritual relationship with their surroundings. For the Kalkadoon people, dreaming stories carries a message
about our behaviour and its effect on others.
Animals, including the emu, the artist’s personal totem, are both a source of food and the inspiration for Kalkadoon stories, dance and art. Chern’ee Sutton has received numerous awards and honours. She has been a Queensland Day Ambassador for the Arts and a Queensland Reconciliation Awards Ambassador, and her work is held in collections nationally and internationally.
Issued as Australian legal tender, the uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed card with a circular window revealing the coin’s reverse and obverse designs. No more than 7,500 of the Kalkadoon Dreaming 2024 Stamp and Coin Cover will be released.

DESIGN

The reverse of the coin depicts the Chern’ee Sutton’s impression of an emu, kangaroo and bird. The flowing lines represent footprints travelling across the land and the circular motifs are indicative of community gatherings.
Also included in the reverse design are ‘P125’ mintmark, signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary, and the 2024 year-date.
The coin’s obverse bears the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the monetary denomination.
