Most Australians know the importance of volunteers in our society and are proud to volunteer and to give freely of their time to help others, the crucial services they are prepared to offer are too many to list. 
The 20c coin design shows a street scene such as would be found in any town or village where any number of people in a sea of faces could be a volunteer. The 50c coin features just some of the many volunteer activites we engage in: helping to provide food to the aged and impoverished, providing shelter for the less fortunate, caring for children and young people, volunteering at sports events and looking after our environment. We also pay tribute to Surf Life Savers, and those who volunteer with the SES and firefighting duties.
