Details
More than a year after her accession in 1952, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in Westminster Abbey. The Royal Australian Mint has marked this occasion with a special coloured circulating coin which will be distributed through the normal channels of banks and retail outlets allowing many Australians to get their hands on them. The design features a stylised representation of St Edward’s Crown surrounded by circles including a pattern of purple coloured, the colour synonymous with royalty, stripes. To honour the 60th anniversary of the momentous event, which began one of the longest reigns in British history the Mint has also released a commemorative $2 colour printed ‘C’ mintmark uncirculated coin with the same design as the circulating coin. This coin is a great memento for the royal fans as well as coloured coin collectors.
