Decsription
A critical part of the transition to decimal currency in 1966 was an extensive public education program that the Decimal Currency Board launched in the print media, radio, and television. Schools introduced the new currency to their students, the Retail Trader's Association held special lectures for members, and a cartoon character, Dollar Bill, was everywhere.
A range of products and souvenirs was issued to commemorate the event and help public understanding. These included items such as currecny converters, coin sets and everyday items like clear glass tumblers with images of the new decimal coins and equivalents in pre-decimal currency stamped on the sides. The emphasis was on how much simpler the new system would be, especially when it came to calculating additions and subtractions.
