Description
As the first marque to feature in the Mint's recent commemorations related to the manufacturing era of Australian history, Holden certainly set a cracking pace from the start. In 2018 we switch gears on this automotive fascination, to take in the highlights of adrenalin charged top speed racing with the Holden Motorsport Collection. Motorsport is a part of Holden's DNA, having raced its vehicles in Australia and overseas with remarkable success for more than 50 years. Holden's Monaro set the scene for years of on-track dominance of the Bathurst race, with a 1-2-3 outright finish in the 1968 event. Since then, the 'General' has been a mainstay on race tracks around the country, from stock-standard production cars, to highly-modified versions of its road-going counterparts, and the current iteration of purpose- built racing machines. Cars have always been a hot topic in collectibles, and this series is no exception. Holden fans and numismatists alike can now be treated to this distinctive buying opportunity not likely to reappear anytime soon.
