DETAILS

The dragon commands the highest respect in Chinese culture. For thousands of years, it was associated with the emperor and his descendants, symbolising wisdom, enlightenment, and benevolence. The dragon was also said to command water and rain, and by ensuring abundant harvests became a powerful symbol of wealth and good fortune. Chinese art often depicts a pair of dragons chasing or fighting over a pearl, a symbol of wisdom and immortality.
Those born under the sign of the Chinese Lunar Dragon in 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976 and every 12th preceding year, are said to be ambitious, successful, and charismatic.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.99% pure silver, coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 2,888 of the Double Dragon with Mother of Pearl 2024 2oz Silver Proof Coin.

DESIGN

The coin portrays two dragons on a background of clouds, representing their heavenly realm. The mythical creatures surround a precision carved mother of pearl centerpiece featuring a three-dimensional sterling silver representation of the Chinese character for ‘dragon’. As well as the inscriptions ‘YEAR OF THE DRAGON’, the reverse includes a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary. Also included is the coin’s weight, purity, and year-date.
The obverse portrays the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the coin’s monetary denomination.

PRESENTATION

Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the coin is housed in a classic presentation case with a beautifully illustrated shipper.
