As part of Australia Day celebrations, Australia Post instituted in 1997 the Australian Legends Award to hounour a prominent cricketer ever to play the game, was the first Australian to be honoured as an Australian legend.

Sir Donald Bradman, 'The Don', was not simply the towering sports figure of our history, he was also a national legend. He was the man who, on his first tour of England in 1930, scored 309 not out during one day of the Leeds Test. Upon retirement his test average was an extraordinary 99.94 runs.
